Had a wonderful stay here, they will treat you like family, and anything you need they are happy to help. Great campsite and beautiful countryside to relax and enjoy nature + wonderful food! The axolotls were a fun surprise as well. I think they are very serious about sustainability with the composting, education, etc. I hope that as more is learned about these species of fireflies the attitude of preservation and conservation continues!

A pleasant place to visit during firefly season. Unfortunately, we saw almost none this year as we went towards the end of the season, unlike previous years. They offer different packages, cabins, and a camping area. The explanations and the axolotl exhibit could be improved. The toilet is a composting toilet (latrines). It's an ecotourism area.

The experience was great. We booked cabins in advance; they're really just small concrete rooms with two beds, only for sleeping. It gets very cold at night, so we brought extra blankets, but the beds are very comfortable. We were able to spend a good amount of time after the sighting, chatting and drinking without any problems. It's an eco-center, so keep in mind that the toilets are composting toilets and, for obvious reasons, public; there's no shower. They have a dining area where they give you atole (a traditional hot drink) and bread if your package includes it. You can also eat something there if you pay, like coffee, quesadillas, or eggs. To get there, you have to take a cart pulled by a tractor with other visitors, as the trail is difficult for a car to navigate. First, we took a tour of the place where they explained the care they've given the forest, then they gave a short talk about the environment or safety (I think they change it; this is the second time we've been). After enjoying your atole and bread, they take you back by tractor to the forest where the firefly viewing takes place. It's important to bring a raincoat because it rained heavily this time. Also, wear comfortable, non-slip shoes, as many people slipped on the mud, and those without raincoats got soaked. You can't take pictures of the fireflies. The instructions are to not use your cell phone or any light that might disturb them, and to avoid making noise that could scare them away. Even so, some people think they can take pictures and do so, but even if you try, the fireflies don't appear in the photos, not even with professional cameras. The distance you walk depends on the weather, but it's always in the dark. This time, because it rained a lot, we didn't walk very far. Last time, when it wasn't raining, we walked quite a bit and saw more fireflies. You can camp near the cabins, not in the firefly forest. They also show you axolotls they keep in captivity, and the next morning they take you down on a tractor. If you prefer to go just to see the fireflies, you can do that; after the sighting, they take you back to the village. The best part of the experience is the beautiful view you take away as a souvenir.

A wonderful experience. They are very well organized. We paid for a package that included a cabin but didn't include food. I recommend purchasing the food package if you plan to stay overnight, as there's no self-service; the dining area only serves those who purchased the package with food. Alternatively, bring snacks or something for dinner after the tour. On the other hand, the tour and the service were excellent, very informative, and the wildlife viewing was incredible. Fireflies kept darting across our path as we walked through the forest. There's also an axolotl breeding center; they're very cute and well cared for, as it's a conservation center. There was a talk about corn and a tasting of atole with bread—delicious! Regarding the cabins, they were very cozy and basic for resting. They don't have a full bathroom; there's an eco-friendly toilet a few meters away, which is totally part of the experience. Thank you, 4e! We'll be back next year.
