According to the "Adventure Assessment Report of Mexico" (2009), Chiapas and Oaxaca are the states with the greatest potential to promote nature tourism in the country, valuing their extensive natural and cultural heritage in a profitable way while promoting the conservation.

This is why, as of 2017, the Community and Sustainable Tourism Alliance of the Oaxaca Coast was formed, to consolidate the Oaxaca Coast as a Sustainable Community Ecotourism destination. In 2018, a participatory diagnosis was made on the opportunities and challenges of the destination to consolidate itself as a place where visitors live an experience of contact with nature and coexistence with the communities that receive them. Based on the results obtained, we worked on the design of the strategy and Action Plan for 2030.

To date, Market Ready evaluations have been carried out on seven companies and some specialized capacities have been strengthened through technical and strategic support. Community tourism services based on fair trade schemes have also begun to be commercialized, and collaboration agreements have been established with national and international travel agencies, as well as transport companies.

Currently the Market Ready Team is working in collaboration with Conservation International on a Training of Trainers project to strengthen the value chain of nature tourism. With the implementation of the Market Ready Model and Cultivation of Sustainable Destinations, 12 companies on the coast of Oaxaca and Chiapas will be strengthened to generate certainty in the different actors of the value chain (tourists, communities, tour operators, travel agencies and managers of destinations), strengthen companies to design high-value tourism experiences and generate positive impacts on sustainable livelihoods of local communities associated with the Natural Protected Areas of that region.
