The Yaxhá Community Guides Association offers archaeological and nature tours, supporting local development and cultural conservation.

The Asociación de Guías Comunitarios de Turismo Yaxhá is a group dedicated to offering tourism experiences focused on the natural and cultural heritage of the region, located in the Maya Biosphere Reserve. As part of the Association of Community Organizations for the Sustainable Development of the Yaxhá Territory (ASODESTY), this initiative contributes to the conservation of the area's natural and cultural resources, promoting sustainable development through tourism.

Services offered include guided tours of Mayan archaeological sites, boat rides through the region's beautiful lagoons, and 4×4 vehicle transportation to explore the most remote areas. Local guides, with a deep knowledge of Mayan history and the biodiversity of the tropical rainforest, create experiential experiences that combine archaeology with nature. These tours not only enrich the visitor's experience, but also support the development of the local community.

The association works actively in attracting private and public investment to strengthen the development of the region and its organizations, allowing for the continuous improvement of tourism services. Visitors can enjoy these services every day from 08:00 to 17:00 hours, and in doing so, contribute to the economic and social well-being of the surrounding communities. This is where they filmed *Survivor: Guatemala*. We got very close to howler monkeys. The sunset from the top of one of the temples featured on *Survivor* was beautiful. Tourist groups only come here at sunset. The entrance fee is only 80 quetzales, compared to 150 quetzales at Tikal. The temples aren't quite as impressive as those at Tikal, but there's a beautiful view of the water here.

Had this gem all to myself. It was extremely quiet when the howler monkeys weren't roaring. I arrived at 0800 and stayed until 1600. The weather was sunny with a light sprinkle in the afternoon. The monkeys and birds were very active. The ruins were amazing to see. My fav was the lookout. Its approx 150 steps to the top but you can see the other temples. I went down to the lake and could have stayed there all day watching the bird activity. The walkways are very slippery so be careful. The trails are easy to follow with good signs just like tikal. You can arrange a tour via you hotel. No passport needed for this one. Just fill out a little piece of paper and pay cash only 80 Q. No card payment or atm so bring cash. Bring passport just in case that info changes 😉. Tikal requires passport. There's a few nature trails and gravel roads that lead off into the jungle. I found more monkeys and birds back there. Very lively place.

This park has a different energy than Tikal. Guatemalas third largest national park. The Mayan temples are stunning. The park received much less people than Tikal. Highly recommend for everyone. You can also camp here and go hiking

Super cool place! Not nearly as developed as Tikal so it has a very different feel - it's much quieter, not nearly as busy, but on the flip side the services aren't quite as good. The ruins are excellent, as was our guide Nelson, but the welcome building was half underwater (no washrooms) and the restaurant was closed. I would recommend a visit despite this if you're into Mayan ruins!

My recommendation is to visit Yaxha first and Tikal second. Because Yaxha is the right level to introduce you to the Mayans for the first time. You will understand and enjoy Tikal way more, if you lay the grounds with Yaxha first.
