Ixcalab Spanish School - Asociación Forestal Integral San Andrés (AFISAP).

Ixcalab: Spanish School is a project operated by the Asociación Forestal Integral San Andrés, Petén. (AFISAP)AFISAP is a non-profit community-based organization dedicated to sustainable natural resource management and local development in the Maya Biosphere Reserve (MBR), Petén, Guatemala. AFISAP was founded in 1997 and obtained its forest concession in 1998, managing 51,939.84 hectares of forest under a sustainable management model. FSC® certified since 2001, the association is recognized for its impact on employment generation and environmental conservation. Among its initiatives, Ixcalab offers a unique Spanish learning experience in a natural and culturally enriching environment.

Located in a privileged site on the shores of Lake Petén Itzá, Ixcalab allows students to learn Spanish with native teachers from the community. The courses, designed with creative and personalized methodologies, include 20, 30 and 40 hours of instruction per week. Students have the opportunity to stay with local families, learning about their customs, traditions and gastronomy. In addition, they can participate in outdoor activities, explore the biodiversity of the MBR and learn about community forest management.

Ixcalab promotes responsible tourism and environmental conservation, aligned with the principles of AFISAP. Its model contributes to local development and strengthens community work through language learning and the enhancement of cultural and natural heritage. With Ixcalab, learning Spanish becomes an integral experience that combines education, culture and sustainability in a unique environment.
