About Biocultural Tourism Yoloaltepetl

The Yoloaltepetl Biocultural Group was founded in 2010 in the original community of San Pedro Tlalcuapan on a voluntary basis. The group is made up of 30 members of the community. Our group is interdisciplinary since it is integrated by different actors (wise grandmothers and grandfathers, professionals, students, youth, children and community authorities). The objective of our group is to strengthen our biocultural identity through different strategies and activities where the teachers are the wise men and women of the community; Nahuatl mother tongue classes, environmental education, craft workshops, traditional and ancestral cooking workshops, traditional knowledge of wild edible mushrooms, ethnobotanical garden with community collectors, defense of the territory, pest and insect control.

In biocultural tourism we have found a strategy to strengthen our local identity, sharing with travelers our way of life, these travelers are responsible, empathetic and thirsty for a cultural immersion, to learn and share. Our main experiences are: *"from corn to tortilla" where you will learn about the process, love and work that exists behind a tortilla with different activities depending on the season of visit you can plant, harvest, pixcar, make your own food based on corn, among other activities. *Mushrooming" where the community guides and mushroom hunters will share with you their traditional knowledge about edible wild mushrooms. *Vinguinas (honey ants) only takes place twice a year. *Day of the dead, *Hiking and mid-mountain and other seasonal experiences.
